This Kigu ‘Bouquet’ basket compact of the old 63 series. It is an excellent example of late 1950s design. It has an engine-turned design on the base and lid. In the lid is an embroidered flower bouquet under perspex.
This example of the vintage Kigu ‘Bouquet’ basket compact was made in the late 1950s for only 2 years from 1956 to 1957. The engine-turned gold tone metal body has a ‘swag-like design’, interspersed with a diamond pattern, which extends from the base to the lid. Around the lid and base the ‘gilt jeweller’s finish’ is decorated with the most gorgeous scalloped design. The compact has a functional handle that the makers describe as a ‘graceful handle’, which it certainly is. The perspex dome protects a delicate embroidered bouquet of flower design. The outside is made from Brass that is coated with a thin layer of enamel to stop it from tarnishing.
The clasp and hinge are in very good working condition. The inside is plastic with the Kigu ‘made in England’ mark. The mirror is in good condition too with no fogging. The compact does not come with a puff or net.
