Made in England by Meccano, originally produced in 1:76 scale, to work alongside the Horny Dublo 00-gauge railways. Limited run from 1957-1960, with this example being pre 1959. A great addition to a collection.
Due to public demand for motor vehicles for their popular railway scenery, Mecanno brought out the Dinky Dublo series in 1957, following the success of its larger Dublo vehicle toys. The blue Commer delivery van was the in the second release in 1958, and continued until it was deleted from the catalogue in 1961.
It features a light blue body on a solid chassis, with grey, smooth wheels. The single colour moulded wheels, with smooth non-scratch tyres indicate that this is a pre 1959 item, as Meccano changed their production after this to treaded tyres, to follow public wants. In used vintage condition, with marks of age.
This would be a great start for anyone to begin a collection, as their was only 14 models produced in the Dublo Dinky range, though with variations there are over 40 models. Their short production runs mean that models can be challenging to find, especially in mint condition. It could make a good restoration project or addition to a railway diorama.
