Pair of “Space Age” sculptural 1950s/1960s silver plated candle holders, from well renowned Denmark designer Cohr. Highly collectable for timeless minimalistic style, they would fit into any home.
The Danish Cohr factory produced items of silverware from 1860, originally founded by Ditlev Cohr, then continued by his son, Carl in 1883. It became the largest silver producing factory in Denmark, gaining international recognition in the World Exhibitions in Brussels 1935 and Paris 1937. Trained as goldsmiths and silversmiths, they produced hand forged flatware, churchware, and eventually in 1921, silverplated items. Cohr used the recognised ATLA as trademark on its silverplated items.
Triangular curved bowl, on a tripod “sputnik” base, it is very reminiscent of the modernist time, where the space race was a worldwide frenzy, and is clearly represented in this style.
The base is clearly marked with the Cohr name, ATLA as a silverplated trademark, and a torch for the Danish quality mark.
In good vintage condition, with highly polished silver plate, it would make a lovely centrepiece on the dining table, as a retro housewarming gift, or desirable addition to any minimlistic home.
